Guiding Light Senior Placement was founded to be the resource families wish they'd had — a trusted guide through one of life's most important transitions.
Why We Started Guiding Light
When our founder's own family faced the challenge of finding the right care for an aging grandparent, they discovered firsthand how overwhelming and confusing the process could be. Endless phone calls, conflicting advice, unfamiliar terminology, and the emotional weight of making decisions for someone you love — all while managing work, family, and daily life.
That experience revealed a gap: families needed a knowledgeable, compassionate guide who could walk alongside them — not just hand them a list of facilities, but truly understand their loved one's needs, preferences, and circumstances, and help them navigate every step of the journey.
Guiding Light Senior Placement was founded to fill that gap. We exist to make sure no family has to face this process alone.

N'Kiya Hamlin
N'Kiya founded Guiding Light Senior Placement after more than 8 years working in social services, and elder care advocacy across the Baltimore region. Her career has been defined by a deep commitment to the dignity and well-being of older adults and the families who love them.
N'Kiya brings extensive knowledge of Maryland's senior care landscape — from assisted living communities and memory care facilities to home care agencies and community resources. She has helped hundreds of families navigate care transitions with clarity and confidence.
N'Kiya is a proud Baltimore native and a passionate advocate for accessible, high-quality senior care throughout Maryland.
